Newspaper and Magazine Articles

Needless to say, the KISS visit to Cadillac was headline news around the world. Literally hundreds of newspapers and magazines covered the event. On this page is a sampling of those articles. Many of these were scanned from 25 year-old newspaper clippings, so the quality is "vintage."

Oddly enough, very little of the video shot for the event remains. This was back in the days before video tape, and the only footage was captured on film by a Saginaw public television station. The station "lost" the film, or at least they don't have it now. Over the years, some snippets have turned up. I have about 8 minutes from a KISS on TV special aired on television in England, and a couple shots were on the "KISS: Xtreme Closeup" on VH1.

rsphoto.jpg (97100 bytes) Everyone wants to be "on the cover of the Rolling Stone." Cadillac didn't make the cover, but on December 18, 1975 we were the featured photo on the Random Notes page. Pretty cool.
rs.jpg (136376 bytes) This is the article that appeared in Rolling Stone, written by Lisa Robinson.
kissarmynews.jpg (56429 bytes) Currently, the KISS Army numbers in the millions and is probably the most loyal fan base in the history of Rock 'n' Roll. Cadillac was featured in the Army's very first newsletter.
detnews.jpg (171318 bytes) The Detroit News had a major piece about the event. It includes a great picture of Ace with the football team.
circus.jpg (129949 bytes) At the time, Circus magazine was the most widely read Rock magazine in the country. we made their pages, too.
cadnews.jpg (138048 bytes) And here's the article from our hometown paper, the Cadillac Evening News.
aquarian.jpg (230697 bytes) The Aquarian was a New York publication at the time. Here's what they said about the Cadillac event. This article has a real fun-filled tone.
billboard.jpg (135869 bytes) Billboard magazine is the bible of the entertainment industry, even today. The Cadillac event even made their pages.
suntimes.jpg (110576 bytes) This was in the Chicago Sun Times.
tceagle.jpg (334619 bytes) Traverse City is northern lower Michigan's largest city. This is an article from the Traverse City Record-Eagle.

Here's a bit of KISS lore that involves Traverse City. About six months after the Cadillac event, KISS returned to northern Michigan for a concert in Traverse City. The venue was an ice hockey arena, seating about 5,000. Styx opened and did their set. KISS came on and three songs into the show a transformer outside the arena blew up and the arena's electrical power was cut off. Repairs were unable to be made, so KISS fans were disappointed; the rest of the show was cancelled.

header.jpg (24410 bytes) Many of the articles that appeared world wide were reprinted in a special edition of the school newspaper, The Cadillican. Here's the header from that edition.
unite.jpg (157916 bytes) "For  years we've been trying to unite the student body and the faculty...KISS did that in one night." This is a quote from Cadillac High School principal John Laurent, and it sums up what the KISS visit meant to Cadillac.
