2007 Summer Reunion/Birthday Party

June 22-23 -- Crystal Mountain, MI

Well, sort of. Several members of of the class of 1965 met at Crystal Mountain in Thomsonville, MI because many of us will turn 60 years of age this year. This "Mini-Reunion" was not only great fun, but set the stage for yearly get-togethers from now on.

Here's the deal. Because reunions are so difficult to plan and carry out (contacting everyone, booking a hall, setting up a dinner, getting a DJ...), the "kids" attending the 2007 get-together have decided that on the third Saturday in June from now until we all die we're going to meet. The "reunion" could be back at Crystal, could be at some other nice resort, could be at a golf course, could be at a tourist destination, could be as simple as a bar in Flint. The point is that we will be getting together on that date and whoever shows up, shows up. Mark it on your calendar and get in on the fun.

At Crystal Mountain on June 22-23 we all booked our own lodging, which ranged from hotel rooms to poolside cottages to mountain top townhomes. On Friday night we met in the wonderful Kinlochen Lodge and dined on the outdoor patio. On Saturday, some played golf while others explored the Frankfort area of Lake Michigan. Then, on Saturday evening we met in the main lodge for a great dinner (ribs, chicken, asparagus, strawberry shortcake). After dinner we all rode the Crystal Clipper chair lift (actually the "Screaming Demon of Death" according to Julia Sanzone) to the top of the mountain to watch the sunset. Some nips of the grape and sips of barley beverages added to the hilarity of the event.

Now for some scenes from this year's gathering...

The ladies of the Class of '65. Ann, Karen, Maureen, Judy, Julia, Nancy, Alberta, Maureen, Mary Ann, Kathy, Mary.

The ladies at the Lily Pad, a wonderful cottage at the edge of Crystal's water park/pool area. Standing: Karen, Alberta, Maureen, Nancy. Seated: Kathy, Ann, Julia, Mary Ann.

Karen, Alberta, Nancy and Ann. See what too much wine will do to you?

Crocket and Tubbs (Miami Vice) has nothing on these guys -- Norm and Ric.

Alma Hale made it to this get-together and it was great to see her again.

Dan Aube and Mary Rasmussen. Mary came all the way from San Diego to join us.

Here's Mary chatting with the "other Aube," Judy Fox.

The Romans and the Daunts. John and his wife traveled from Pennsylvania.

John Roman and his wife. (I know, I should remember her name because she's really nice, but I'm old and my half-ziemers keeps acting up.)

The first tee. We had three foursomes. No birdies were harmed in the making of this picture.

In full flight on the Crystal Clipper chair lift (otherwise know as Julia's Screaming Demon of Death). Left to right: Jim Neff, Maureen Bol, Julia Sanzone, Ann Militello. Julia's main concern? That she would lose her shoes and she plunged to her demise.

See, we did all get off the chair and survive the experience. No nitro pills were needed at the conclusion of the ride.

Alberta Guza took the two pictures above.

Bates still claims that Louie Passariello is actually "Greek."

Karen Laux is always happy and that vodka she carried in her water bottle all weekend was merely a coincidence.

More to come...
